Choosing a Parenting Coach

Maybe you:
• Are a new parent and seeking answers to bonding and breast feeding.
• Are dealing with poor communication skills with your teen.
• Are lacking in confidence as a new stepparent.
• Want to trust your intuition about your kids
• Want to keep your own direction in life clear and prioritize your time and goals
• Want to rear a positive and happy child
• You might just need a parenting coach.

For many parents, a parenting coach is a relief and a person who can guide their parenting skills and strengths. They are able to guide parents and aid them in understanding why their children are doing what they are doing. Parenting coaches are individuals that are both trained and certified in the field. They focus specifically on helping you negotiate and clarify relationships within the family.

What Do You Look For?

When you are looking for a parenting coach you first want to determine exactly what types of issues you are having. Next, determine what type of help you need. Do you want someone to talk to on the phone and to seek advice from? Do you want to go to an office and discuss the problems and search for solutions? Or, would you like to find a coach who has a variety of tools that they could provide you with to get started and then help you fill in the blanks?

When you are looking for a parenting coach be sure to interview and talk with a number of different coaches. Discuss their techniques and make sure their values and concepts are in line with the way you would like to parent your children. On the other hand, don’t be afraid to choose someone who will challenge you. You need to get outside the box a little and feel comfortable being stretched and being held accountable for your actions. If you want results, then you change the steps to get there, and your parenting coach can mentor you along that path.

One-Size Does Not Fit All

It is important to remember that parent coaching is not a one-size-fits-all solution. You have to find someone who is able to help you find the balance in life that you are seeking. Parenting coaching allows you to create your own solutions, but with the guidance that you need. Your parenting coach will take into consideration your situation and your children and will help you develop a customized system that works for you.

Your parenting coach will look at your present situation and focus on the future. They will help you determine what steps need to be taken next and how you can act now. You will learn to set goals for yourself and your children, as well as how to act on the advice that is provided to you. How you view your life will directly affect how you handle certain situations with your children.

Today’s Children and Parents are Different

Today’s children and parents are much different than they were several generations ago. There are many challenges that parents face today that are different than what their parents may have faced. Many parents find that they are negative and autocratic when they want to be democratic and positive. This may be drastically different from the way in which they were raised as children. This can be a difficult change to make, but with guidance from a professional then they are able to work through their own challenges.

What to Look For in a Parent Coach

Someone who advocates your success.
Someone with whom you enjoy sharing yourself because you recognize that they listen.
A person who feels right to your heart ands gut because you feel safe with this person.
Someone who gives you a new perspective on parenting so that you are able to make person changes accordingly.
